There is no denying that a balanced budget will lead to economic growth and job creation. Americans on either side of the aisle agree that our nation’s fiscal house is in dire need of these remedies, and yet, House Republicans are the only ones in Washington working toward this common-sense solution.

Being nominated as Administrator of the US EPA is quite an achievement for Gina McCarthy, and in all of the pomp and circumstance surrounding this appointment, I thought I would try to give a few words of advice to the new Administrator as she takes over at a critical time in our nation’s history as it relates to the environment.

Our nation’s debt is $16.6 trillion. Deficits are at record levels, despite the fact that revenues have reached a record estimate of $2.7 trillion this year. Yet still, the government is wasting billions of dollars on unnecessary government programs. House Republicans have pleaded with the President and Senate Democrats to cut waste, but our demands have been met with silence.

The economic, energy, and national security benefits associated with building the Keystone XL Pipeline are clear. Construction of the pipeline would produce thousands of jobs, and gas prices would begin to decline.

The path that the USPS is currently taking is simply unsustainable. I’ve been a small businessman for over thirty years, and while the USPS is the 2nd largest employer in country and by no means a small business, the fundamentals remain the same.
