Statement from Rep. Gibbs on WOTUS Court Ruling

WASHINGTON, DC – Following the ruling from the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court blocking the EPA’s Waters of the United States rule nationwide, Congressman Gibbs released the following statement:

“I am pleased to see the Sixth Circuit Court put a stay on this disastrous and burdensome regulation.  The EPA’s redefining of Waters of the United States is a massive expansion of their authority, it erodes the states’ role in protecting non-navigable waters and it does nothing to protect or enhance water quality.  This rule is just another example of the federal government overstepping its jurisdiction at the expense of the states, a majority of which filed lawsuits to overturn the rule.  With farmers, small business owners, state governments, private property advocates and now several U.S. courts against them, I call on the EPA to withdraw this costly regulation and start from scratch.  The Clean Water Act has always been a partnership between the federal and state governments. It’s time the EPA treats the states as partners rather than adversaries.”
