Gibbs WRRDA Bill Signed Into Law
Washington D.C.—Congressman Gibbs released the following statement after the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA) was signed into law by the President this morning:
“I am pleased to join the President and members of the WRRDA conference committee today to see this bill become law. Most importantly, WRRDA is a jobs bill. It has passed through the House and Senate with an overwhelming bipartisan majority that will help improve our maritime transportation systems throughout the nation and keep our country competitive in today’s global markets. The Water Resources Reform and Development Act will not only improve our nation’s economic competitiveness as a whole, but also ensure that the Great Lakes maritime network is treated as one system when determining future project priorities.
“It is the first WRRDA bill without earmarks and contains fundamental reforms across the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers while maintaining fiscal responsibility by de-authorizing outdated projects. I am proud of the work that we have accomplished without compromising our key principles: maintaining fiscal responsibility, streamlining studies and maintaining Congress’ role in determining our nation’s infrastructure projects.”
