Gibbs Votes to Protect Civil Liberties

Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Following the House passage of H.R. 2048, the USA FREEDOM Act, Congressman Gibbs released the following statement:

“Today the House voted to prevent government overreach and put a stop to all bulk records collections under Section 215 of the PATRIOT Act. This bill recognizes the need to balance national security with the civil liberties of our citizens.  The reforms made in the USA FREEDOM Act will provide a more transparent process for the American people, including declassifying FISA court opinions. While strengthening protections for citizens, H.R. 2048 gives additional tools to monitor and fight terrorist groups like ISIL. I am proud to support legislation that keeps our country safe while preserving the freedoms Americans hold dear.”
