WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Bob Gibbs (R-OH) today issued the following statement after the House passed H.R. 1230, the Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act, legislation which will help address soaring gas prices and create new jobs by moving forward on energy projects the Obama Administration has either delayed or canceled:

“Today, I voted to expand the production of American-made energy because rising gasoline prices are hurting families across Southeast Ohio.  The high cost of energy also impairs small businesses’ ability to create jobs and grow our economy.

“Expanding domestic energy production will decrease our dependence on foreign sources of energy and generate much‐needed revenue that could be used to help pay off our $14 trillion debt.  However, the Obama Administration’s policies continue to block crucial American energy production, limiting the supply of available energy resources and increasing the cost of oil and gas.

“I am committed to breaking down the Administration’s barriers to expanding opportunities for American-made energy production and economic growth.  I look forward to supporting additional American Energy Initiative bills in the coming weeks.”
