Gibbs Statement on Committee Approval of Highway Bill
WASHINGTON, DC – After the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s approval of the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform (STRR) Act, Congressman Bob Gibbs released the following statement:
“I want to thank Chairman Shuster and the Committee for their hard work on this important legislation. I have always said that a highway bill needs to be a multi-year bill to provide certainty for states, allowing them to plan for large-scale projects that span several years. Additionally, it is critical that we streamline the review and permitting processes, making it easier to start and complete projects. Also important is promoting private investment and create competitive funding mechanisms. The STRR Act does all of these things and makes America’s roads and bridges safer. I look forward to a vigorous debate on this legislation as the Ways and Means Committee provides funding mechanisms before it moves to the House floor for consideration.”
