Gibbs Named Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee Chairman
Washington D.C.—Congressman Gibbs released the following statement after Chairman Shuster announced the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee assignments for the 114th Congress:
“I am looking forward to my third term as Chairman of the Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee. Last Congress, my subcommittee worked with the House and Senate to craft the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA). WRRDA improves our nation’s water infrastructure and promotes economic growth, and was one of the few bipartisan bills the President signed into law last year,” said Gibbs
“The subcommittee will now focus on implementing WRRDA and continue to investigate the EPA’s proposed, ‘Waters of the United States’ rule. This rule is a federal power grab that will have devastating effects on our country’s small businesses, farmers and homeowners and provides no real environmental protections. I welcome Senator Inhofe’s invitation for a bicameral committee hearing on this important issue to learn of the affects of the proposed rule on industry stakeholders. In addition to preventing the harmful WOTUS proposed rule from being finalized, I look forward to strengthening our nation’s maritime transportation systems.
“Last Congress, Chairman Gibbs was essential to the passage of WRRDA,” said Chairman Shuster. “His steadfast leadership on the implementation of WRRDA and his previous work on EPA’s proposed, ‘Waters of the United States’ rule will carry through to this session of Congress. I look forward to working with Chairman Gibbs on strengthening our maritime transportation infrastructure and reining in the EPA.”
