Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the House of Representatives passed legislation to protect the life of the unborn.  Rep. Diane Black introduced H.R. 3134, the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015, after the series of horrific videos were made public in an effort to prevent federal funding from going to the controversial abortion group.

After passage of H.R. 3134, Congressman Gibbs released the following quote:

“I thank my colleagues for voting to defund Planned Parenthood.  We saw, in terrible detail, the practices involved, including restarting the heart of an aborted child only to silence the beat of that heart once again.  These videos shined a light on the dark truths of Planned Parenthood. While the appropriate House committees investigate whether these gruesome procedures broke any federal laws, it is only right to prevent taxpayer dollars from filling Planned Parenthood’s coffers.”

Ducia Hamm, Executive Director of Ashland Care Center in Ashland, Ohio, also praised the legislation:

“I am grateful that the House passed legislation to stop federal funds from going to Planned Parenthood.  There are many alternatives to access women’s health services, like the Ashland Care Center, that do not engage in the heinous procedures that were uncovered this summer.”

The House also passed H.R. 3504, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which would make the failure to provide standard medical care to children born alive during an abortion a federal crime.

Earlier in the day, Congressman Gibbs spoke on the House floor in support of H.R. 3134. The video can be seen here.
