Gibbs Grills EPA Chief in Agriculture Hearing

February 11, 2016
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – During today’s House Agriculture Committee hearing, Congressman Bob Gibbs questioned Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy on the merits and process of the agency’s Waters of the United States rule. 32 states and countless groups such as U.S. Chamber of Commerce and American Farm Bureau Federation have sued the EPA over WOTUS and the Sixth Circuit court issued a nationwide stay to block the rule while it is argued in court.  WOTUS encroaches upon states’ authority and oversteps the federal-state partnership under the Clean Water Act and creates more uncertainty over what falls under EPA jurisdiction.

Gibbs’ questions focused on a report by the Government Accountability Office that asserted the EPA broke anti-lobbying laws by using what is called “covert propaganda” in promoting the WOTUS rule during the public comment period.  Administrator McCarthy defended the agency’s social media tactics in her testimony.

Earlier this week, Congressman Gibbs’ op-ed on the EPA’s harmful effects on rural America was published and can be found here.
