Gibbs: Empowering Americans to Control Their Healthcare
WASHINGTON, DC – Following the House’s vote this evening to override the President’s veto on repealing Obamacare, Congressman Bob Gibbs released the following statement:
“Tonight a majority of the House voted to side with the American people in repealing Obamacare. While we did not end up with the necessary votes to override the President’s veto, I believe it’s important to continue to show Americans the clear contrast between our agenda and the President’s agenda. It is painfully obvious that Obamacare is not working: premiums are increasing, coverage networks are shrinking and the cost of Obamacare has already doubled.
“I will continue to fight for what I have always believed is the best way to fix our nation’s broken health care system. We have to implement market-oriented reforms that drive down costs, improve the patient-doctor relationship to make healthcare decisions without a bureaucrat involved, incentivize health savings accounts for routine and preventive care, and encourage states to create risk pools for those who are medically uninsurable. We need to empower the American people to take charge of their healthcare, not rely on the federal government to make a one-size-fits-all plan for every American’s healthcare”
Initially passed in January, H.R. 3762 repeals Obamacare, including a long list of taxes and mandates. It also prevents taxpayer dollars from going to entities that provide abortions and redirects that money to the Community Health Center Program, which provides comprehensive health services in medically underserved areas.
