Congressman Gibbs Will Attend House-Senate Joint Hearing on ‘Waters of the U.S.’ Rule

February 3, 2015
Press Release

Washington, D.C.—Congressman Gibbs released the following statement before the landmark bicameral hearing on state and local impacts of the Administration’s proposed expansion of the Clean Water Act:

“Tomorrow, the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers will come before the House and the Senate to answer Congress’s concerns about the proposed Waters of the United States’ rule. The proposed rule aims to broaden the scope of the Clean Water Act and place more regulatory burdens on Americans across the country through defining key language in the CWA. This hearing will investigate potential impacts of the proposed definitions in the rule on state and local governments. I hope we will gain more insight from the involved Agencies and hear the concerns of the state and local governments to work towards a commonsense, legislative solution.”
