Congressman Gibbs Addresses AMWA Water Policy Conference
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Gibbs released the following statement after speaking at the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) annual Water Policy Conference.
“I would like to thank the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies for inviting me to speak at their annual Water Policy Conference. Last year, I had the opportunity to speak with many of you prior to WRRDA becoming law. I am committed to implementing the important reforms in WRRDA, like streamlining programs and instituting the commonsense WIFIA program, to improve aging water infrastructure. My subcommittee is now focused on the EPA’s proposed Waters of the United States rule, which received over a million comments and with a majority opposed. This rule, if finalized, would add additional costs and red tape to local governments, land owners, builders and small businesses.
“WRRDA helped renew Congress’s commitment to metropolitan water systems by ensuring WIFIA programs reached small community water infrastructure programs and leveraged private sector investments to those communities who need assistance. I look forward to working with many of you this Congress to implement the WIFIA pilot program designed to improve local water quality and also ensure our nation’s water and water infrastructure is safe, effective, and affordable.”
