Congressman Gibbs’ Outlook for 114th Congress

January 6, 2015
Press Release

Congressman Gibbs released the following statement after being sworn into the 114th session of Congress:

“Today marks the start of the 114th Congress and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House and the new Senate Majority. Republicans are eager to improve the business climate for job creation, economic growth, strengthening our national security, securing our borders and other legislative priorities important to hardworking Americans.  This week, the House will begin the legislative year by considering the approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline construction and provide relief from Obamacare through key bills, the Hire More Heroes Act and Save American Workers Act.

“As Chair of the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment, I will continue vigorous oversight of the Administration and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Under this administration, burdensome regulations are hurting our nation’s citizens, farmers, and job creators.  I look forward to addressing critical issues like the administration’s disastrous ‘Waters of the United States’ proposed rule. This rule would allow the Administration to bypass Congress and limit states powers to regulate waters and erode private property rights with no environmental benefits. Additionally, my committee will focus on ensuring that our nation’s maritime transportation and infrastructure is maintained so that our nation’s businesses can move their products efficiently.”
