Congressman Bob Gibbs Votes to Repeal Job-Killing Healthcare Law

Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bob Gibbs released the following statement regarding today’s vote for H.R. 6079, the Repeal of Obamacare Act:

“Today, I voted to repeal the President’s broken healthcare plan.  Obamacare does nothing to address rising healthcare costs while adding trillions of dollars in new government spending we cannot afford. Regardless of the recent Supreme Court decision, a majority of Americans still agree Obamacare is bad for their families and bad for the economy.

“Under Obamacare as many as 20 million Americans could lose their employer-based healthcare, while imposing more than $800 billion in taxes that will affect every American.  While we all agree that reforms are needed, the American people have made it very clear that this almost $3 trillion government takeover of the health care system is not what they had in mind.

“Congress needs to start over and adopt common sense initiatives that would encourage patients to be in control of their healthcare; increase the patient-doctor relationship; cover pre-existing conditions; provide meaningful tort reform; expand Health Savings Accounts; and grant consumers portability to buy insurance across state lines.

“I call on the Senate to listen to the American people and pass this bill so we can begin to make real reforms to our healthcare system.”
