Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bob Gibbs (R-OH) released the following statement upon passage of The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2011; legislation that extends current payroll tax relief, protects Social Security, reforms and extends unemployment insurance, and extends pro-growth tax relief for businesses of all sizes while also advancing several bipartisan measures that will directly support the creation of private-sector jobs:

“The Middle Class Tax Relief & Job Creation Act is about strengthening our economy and getting Americans back to work through commonsense reforms, including job creation initiatives supported by President Obama in his economic plan.

“This fiscally responsible bill will spur the creation of thousands of new jobs, protect American workers and job creators from tax increases, roll back job-killing regulations, and reduce waste and fraud in programs that are important to those in need.  Other job creation provisions included in the bill would speed up approval of the Keystone XL energy project, stop excessive federal regulations that threaten job growth, and extending a payroll tax cut that will help small business create jobs and boost the economy.

“Most importantly, we are taking another huge step towards ending Washington’s reckless spending binge as   everything in this bill is offset by spending cuts rather than job-destroying tax increases that would hit families and small businesses struggling with the consequences of President Obama’s failed economic policies.”
