Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Bob Gibbs praised the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) $9 million Infrastructure For Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant for the Irishtown Bend Bulkhead Stabilization project to the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA). Gibbs advocated directly to Transportation Secretary Chao on behalf of the project, which will install steel sheeting as bulkheads to prevent erosion and collapse of the Irishtown Bend hillside into the Cuyahoga River.

After the announcement, Congressman Gibbs released the following statement:

“Thank you to Secretary Chao for being a valuable partner in my efforts to ensure this project receives the funding it deserves. I am pleased to see the USDOT’s recognition of Northeast Ohio’s importance in maintaining and improving American infrastructure. The Irishtown Bend project is critical in keeping the Cuyahoga River and Port of Cleveland open for business. With so many jobs dependent on an open, safe, and clean Great Lakes system, the DOT funding for this program will help the efforts of saving 20,000 jobs that rely on the shipping channel in the Cuyahoga River. Congratulations to NOACA and all organizations committed to ensuring Cleveland will remain a vital component to Great Lakes commerce.”
