Gibbs Announces $18 Million USDOT Grant for Route 30 Expansion
WASHINGTON, DC - On Wednesday, Congressman Bob Gibbs announced an $18 million U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) Grant for the Regional Transportation Improvement Project to extend U.S. Route 30 to State Route 44. The extension will be approximately three miles long beginning from Trump Avenue. Congressman Gibbs previously wrote to USDOT Secretary Elaine Chao, working with her to promote and lend his support for Route 30.
“I’ve been working with local stakeholders to expand Route 30 since 2012 and its importance cannot be understated,” said Gibbs. “Not only will it provide greater infrastructure for the energy industry, it is an essential component in the efforts to increase the region’s competitiveness and attractiveness to prospective new business growth. This project will improve highway access, increase safety by diverting commercial trucks away from the current two-lane route, and provide economic development opportunities. I am very happy to see Secretary Chao, after reviewing the evidence, agrees with me that extending Route 30 to State Route 44 is a worth this investment.”
